Typogateax, 'If Comic Sans were a cake'.

Well, what can I say.
Me and Sarah clearly do not have the skills of baking.

We named it, 'If Comic Sans were a cake'.

'What If...', Designs. Powerpoint presentation.

First design following the chosen colour scheme.  The yellow forces the black forwards, so all the important information is in black- easily seen.  I incorporated the arrow to show

Beginning with a smaller stroke makes the type less readable, so the eye follows the text down towards the larger, more weighted.

The central alignment above reflects the shape of the arrow.  This alignment coupled with the types point size creates an "eye test" kind of look- it becomes more readable the further down the viewer looks- people relate to the idea of an eye test and the eye knows to look further down to the larger more readable text- they take in the message.

This, much like Lisa's design below would work well in a handout to the general public along with being a poster designed to be below C.C.T.V cameras.

To make the brief live and force awareness I printed out smaller versions of my design and dotted them near CCTV cameras I could reach to attract attention.
For example:

This specific image was taken in a busy building on the underside of stairs.  The bright yellow against the white makes it stand out.  It attracted some attention whilst I was placing it, much like when we stood underneath CCTV cameras down Briggate road.  This attracted more attention.  Everyone noticed the posters as they walked past and some even asked us what we were doing.  To which we answered 'we are trying to raise awareness on the amount that the public are being watched'.

We also found the transport CCTV cameras within Leeds where you could go on the site and look at these areas.  We took our posters out and stood for 15 minutes whilst Lisa print screened us on her laptop.  Unfortunately we were too far away to be seen.  However, even though this was unsuccessful we did attract quite a lot of attention standing for 15 minutes.

This was supposed to hit home how easy it is to watch people, and how much we are being watched.

Digital Photography induction

At the beginning of the lesson we began experimenting with the different settings on the DSLR.  Above you can see the difference within shutter speeds; aperture; light settings; ISO settings.  I felt that after this I felt I could competently use the camera.

Above I have just changed the light setting from auto to tungsten.

Again I changed the white balance to tungsten.  It creates a more orange hue, and has a more warm feel.

Next we experimented with different coloured sheets of plastic over the lighting to create totally different hues within the frame.

'What If...'

Research prior to this is on 'Design Context'.

Problem:
People are unaware of the extent that they are being watched through CCTV within Leeds.

Evidence:
The research we have collected shows that there are a lot of cameras within Leeds that people were not aware of.

We intend to:
We intend to make people aware of the extent that they are being watched by highlighting CCTV in general within the streets of Leeds, and also the amount of CCTV.

One of our initial ideas was to create a poster that would sit on the pavement and encourage people to look up and wake up to CCTV around them.  The poster would be underneath the cameras to make it obvious what they were there for.

Legal issues:
Making this brief live would be impossible because it is classed as 'littering' to put something on the floor.
We thought about chalk but that would not keep consistency within our design and would be more about the concept.
It would be possible to place it there late at night and just take images, but this would not make it live and therefore pointless.
